A quiet patch of grass near Potranco Road and State Highway 211 in far west San Antonio is suddenly the hottest vacant lot in the neighborhood. Santikos Entertainment is planning around 20 hectares there for a new entertainment complex with first-class cinemas, bowling alleys, an arcade and space for surrounding retail shops. Initial renderings and a new billboard have already caused a stir on social media. Locals called it a potential “edge of the Far West Side” and raised alarms about traffic problems and disappearing green spaces. It’s still an open field at the moment, but the announcement has city planners and residents excited to see what happens next along this corridor.

What Santikos says: It will build

According to KSAT, Santikos plans to equip the Far West Side project with luxury auditoriums with large-format screens, multiple bowling alleys, an arcade and full food and beverage service. Company officials told reporters that the complex is still in the planning stages. They shared a rendering, but no firm construction schedule has been set.

Part of a larger expansion

The Potranco proposal is one of two major projects Santikos launched across San Antonio in August 2025 as part of an investment of more than $60 million. A North Side location called Trinity Oaks is also planned, with completion expected later. CultureMap and other industry reports report that Trinity Oaks is slated for 10 to 12 premium screens, immersive gaming spaces and mixed-use components, signaling that Santikos wants these locations to function as full-fledged entertainment centers rather than traditional disposable movie theaters.

Buzz, renderings and billboards

The Far West Side internet grapevine has achieved its goal. A viral post that dubbed the Potranco plan “The Rim on the Far West Side” sparked a flood of comments, with some neighbors welcoming new options for a night out and others preparing for traffic jams and brighter lights. MySA reported that Santikos distributed a rendering to the media in mid-May and that a billboard for the project is already rising near the planned site, which is still vacant land for now.

What this means for the Far West Side

For residents, developers and anyone who has watched this part of the city fill at top speed, the Santikos project is another signal that retail and recreation dollars are flowing toward the outer edges of the city. Industry officials say the Potranco and Trinity Oaks developments together represent a significant reinvestment in San Antonio’s entertainment landscape. Boxoffice Pro notes that Santikos has touted both developments as community assets and points to the company’s partnership with the San Antonio Area Foundation, which aims to turn some of the benefits into local causes.

Santikos already operates the Palladium at The Rim at 17703 W IH 10, a reminder that this round of growth comes from a longstanding local exhibitor rather than a national chain. Company officials say more details will be revealed as planning continues. In the meantime, neighbors along the Potranco Corridor and city planners alike will be watching permit applications and traffic studies to figure out how this entertainment center could transform this part of the West Side.
