Nutter’s Real Estate Development Chair receives the 2023 Real Estate Attorney of the Year award.
BOSTON – Marianne Ajemian, chair of the real estate department and attorney at Nutter, has a reputation for being innovative, responsive and practical. She is a pioneer and has more than 30 years of experience advising local and national clients on complex transactions.
Ajemian was the first woman to serve on the company’s management committee, a position she held for nine years. Under her leadership, Nutter’s outstanding real estate practice has represented clients in real estate transactions in nearly every state. In 2022 alone, Nutter’s national real estate practice managed more than 310 commercial real estate acquisitions and dispositions; oversaw permitting for more than 195 real estate developments; and managed more than 230 real estate loans valued at over $9 billion.
With a practice focused on representing clients locally and nationally in complex transactional matters, Ajemian represents financing institutions, real estate investment trusts, developers, real estate investors and advisors, pension fund advisors and their institutional investors, REITs, healthcare and senior housing companies, and nonprofit institutions.

<p>In addition, Ajemian advises clients on all aspects of acquisition, development, disposal and leasing of commercial real estate on a wide range of projects including mixed-use and transit-oriented developments, office buildings, life science projects, industrial properties, multi-family residential projects, hotels , restaurants and institutional uses.</p>
<p>Her ability to reduce complex issues to the sum of their parts has made her an effective communicator, educator and critical team leader. She is a problem solver who can develop a strategy, build consensus, energize her team, oversee the effective implementation of a plan and achieve results. Her combination of precise legal and editorial skills and the provision of effective advice on business matters is a combination of skills that is not easy to find. Even in the most contentious negotiations, Ajemian is able to put the emotional element aside, focus on core principles and propose creative solutions that work for all parties involved in the transaction.</p>
