BOSTON (CBS) – As more people get outside, business owners are also turning to food trucks for a great spring and summer.

“Given the pandemic situation, we thought, ‘Let’s try to broaden our horizons and do something we’ve never done before,” said Matt Chelko, executive chef of Summer Shack’s new food truck. The fish chain has been around for over 20 years in store and has locations in Boston, Cambridge and Mohegan Sun. On April 16, they launched their first food truck.

“You don’t have to put tables six feet apart. Because of the nature of the truck, people will be a lot farther from the people who come in, ”Chelko said. “It’s a nice change when you have to worry about things like that in a restaurant.”

Anne-Marie Aigner is the founder of Food Truck Ventures, a company that allows people to book food trucks for their neighborhood, workplace or fundraiser. “People come out of their homes and see food trucks as another dining option, a safe dining option. And we also get new food trucks every day, because food trucks are also optimistic, ”said Aigner.

For their new company, Gourmet Kreyòl, Nathalie Lecorps and Karyn Glemaud decided between a stationary or a food truck and ultimately opted for a restaurant on wheels.

“Definitely the right choice. Certainly. Because I know everything that is going on with COVID in the restaurants, the capacity of the people who can have them there is very small, ”said Lecorps.

Gourmet Kreyòl started this week with plans to spend Thursdays on Jamaica Plain at 137 Green Street and Fridays in the South End at 775 Harrison Avenue. Given the turnout over the past two days, they are already thinking about getting business going.

“That’s great. God is so good. I am so happy. I am grateful. In any case, we will probably add a few more days,” said Lecorps.
