BOSTON — Boston city officials have issued a letter to restaurants and businesses near TD Garden in preparation for potentially rowdy crowds after Thursday’s Game 6 Celtics game.

With elimination from the NBA Finals trailing 3-2 in Game 6 in their best-of-seven series against the Golden State Warriors, the Celtics say they are determined to win Sunday night in San Francisco and to force a crucial game 7.

In the letter, city officials say all restaurants near the garden must remove or secure any outdoor furniture or “movable objects” on the patios by 2 p.m. Thursday.

“This is a necessary measure to promote safety and order on public roads during every championship celebration,” the letter said.

The letter said that this is a policy that has been in place since 2004 and that al fresco restaurants can remain open until the start of the third quarter, after which they will have to move indoors. Those restaurants are also prohibited from bringing in new customers from the third quarter of Thursday and Sunday’s game, provided the Celtics make it into Game 7.

The Celtics rebounded from a 3-2 deficit against defending champions Milwaukee Bucks in the Eastern Conference Semifinals and needed to win a Game 7 away against the top-seeded Miami Heat in the East Conference Finals. After losing two straight games for the first time in this playoff, Boston will need to regroup to keep its Banner 18 hopes alive.
