A whole grilled fish in Kaia. | Justin Kelleher/Eater Boston

The distillation of Boston’s seafood scene on a list is an impossible task. In view of the location of the city, the seafood is a highlight in many menus, regardless of whether it is the only focus of the restaurant or not. Instead, imagine this list as a rehearsal wall of places to find excellent seafood, from shrimp receviche to grilled mussels to entire salt fish. (Just look for lobster rolls? Head here. I just want sushi? Correctly in this way. Only interested in Oyster Happy Hours? We also have a list for it.)

What has changed in this update: We refreshed the list with a handful of exciting new additions, including Greek seafood spots Kaia in the South End, and said goodbye to some places, including Puritan Oyster Bar and Porto.
