Finally the world is open again! After the madness we all went through over the past year, going back to eating feels like pure freedom. While you probably have your favorite dishes and there are so many great places to grab a bite to eat in the area, you may have missed out on a few hidden gems.

From small and quaint to new and trendy, Genesee County has something for everyone. The list could go on and on, but here are a few notable and hey check the out places you might want to visit for your next meal.

Barley & wine

Got the chance to visit this place when igloo food was all the rage. The waitress told us that they had just opened at the start of the pandemic and had to rely on alternative ways to serve their customers from the start. Even then, this place on 1072 S Elms Road was amazing. Barley & Vine specializes in locally and locally made charcuterie, wine and beer, as well as regional and international favorites. I highly recommend the Cronstini ‘Nduja & Goat’s Cheese Cronstini. Check it out here.

Sauce Italian-American cuisine

New in the neighborhood is the Sauce Italian American Kitchen in the new Hilton Garden Inn in downtown Flint. Your chef, Chef Antwain, shows that you are a hotspot to eat and has been named Genesee County’s Best Chef My city magazine already. If you are looking for homemade pasta and pizza made from authentic old world recipes, this is the place. There is also the newly opened Simmer roof-top bar, which offers a fantastic view while you enjoy happy hour or a classic after-dinner drink. Check out all of their events on their Facebook page.

Holly Hotel

Yeah, yeah … I know it’s technically Oakland County, but it’s right over the border and feels like it’s part of the neighborhood. It’s been our family place for the Christmas holidays for years, but the Holly Hotel has a full year waiting for them with amazing food and cool events. Yes … even the hauntings of their resident spirits. There are specialty menus for almost every holiday including the upcoming 4th of July and some unique events like “Cigars, Wine, Charcuterie and Music “at the RED RIDING HOOD STABLES on June 26. The Holly Hotel has also come up with some delightful to-go items Baked Brie Cheese and Croute, Dijon Caramel, Summer Berry Salad, Prime Rib & Provolone Sliders and more. See what all the fuss is about by visiting their website.

Prime 810

Recently in the area, the Prime 810 in Flushing has already made a name for itself as a place for a fabulous evening. Prime 810 also has a great lunch menu. A perfect place to start the weekend with their weekly After Work Wine Down every Friday from 5pm. Steaks, seafood, and a personal favorite, the pork chops, the Prime 810 has an amazing selection with an eclectic menu that pretty much everyone will love. See all of their fabulousness by visiting their website here.

DaEdoardo North

Think amazing food and a hell of a view. I will go ahead and share the view that DaEdoardo North, located in Grand Blanc, seriously offers the best in Genesee County, especially at this time of year. Whether you dine in the restaurant or on the terrace, enjoy a picturesque view while enjoying authentic Italian cuisine. As much as I love everything on their menu, I just can’t get enough of their Gamberoni da DaEdoardo. DaEduardo North is a real family restaurant and is run by Eddie and Suzie Barbieri. The couple opened the Genesee County location back in 2000. The original family restaurant was founded in 1956 after Eddie’s grandfather’s riot in Detroit. Eddie and Suzie came full circle when they opened Lalanterna in Detroit 4 years ago, right across from the original Lalanterna from 1956. Check out their amazing specials and events on their Facebook page.

These are just a few of the incredible restaurants in and around Genesee County. Be sure to try them out and let us know the favorites on your bucket list!
